Abstract:
The Van der Pol–Duffing oscillator is studied in both integer and fractional orders. The integer-order system shows nonlinear damping and cubic stiffness, leading to multistability, periodic, quasiperiodic, and chaotic behaviors. Extending the model with the Caputo fractional derivative introduces memory effects and simulations using the Fractional Adams–Bashforth–Moulton algorithm reveals altered attractors and richer dynamics, making fractional modeling more suitable for real-world engineering systems.
